About

Established in 1976

Drs. Starkey and Klein are developmental psychologists specializing in early mathematics. They are the developers of the Pre-K Mathematics curriculum, as well as the Child Math Assessment, the Early Mathematics Classroom Observation tool, and a Tier-2 intervention for children at risk for mathematics disabilities. They have successfully directed or co-directed two multi-state intervention projects (Klein, et al., 2008; Starkey et al., 2014), an i3 validation study on a statewide scale, and several other IES, NSF, and NIH funded projects in preschool and elementary school settings in multiple countries and states.

Dr. Flynn joined the team in 2012 from the Florida Center for Reading Research where she worked on several IES and NIH funded projects focusing on early literacy and early mathematics. With a background in special education, her focus is on early intervention to prevent school failure and the over representation of minority and low-income students in special education. Previously, she was an early childhood special education teacher for 13 years.
